Using plasma from sampled turtles, NOAA endocrinologist Camryn Allen has determined that the San Diego Bay population has a ratio of 3.5 females to every male. Like other reptiles, the sex of sea turtle eggs are determined by the temperature of the ground it is laid in. Warmer temperatures create more females suggesting this ratio could continue to grow as global temperatures continue to increase.
